    Long time no boot
2005-04-05 08:54 av micke under kategorin atari
Last night I though I'd try out all the new demos and stuff that was released for the falcon recently. It was then that I realised how long it has been since I used it. When my C partition failed, I almost gave up, and now I see why. The ethernet driver disappeared with all my other boot stuff, so I had no way to connect to any other computer.

So, I could download the driver to another computer, put it on a floppy and copy it to the falcon, or so I though, for about 2 seconds until I realised that I have no copmuter hooked in with a floppy drive! Perhaps I should buy an external USB floppy drive for my mac after all.

Oh, and I have many new ideas about an ST demo. When I get the falcon up and running again, I will start coding. Probably. Maybe. :)
    Not so bad afterall

I managed so save all partitions except C, the bootpartition. When using the same version of HDDriver that was installed on the harddrive, I could install the driver on D and the computer booted as it should, except, off course that it wasn't from C. After reinitializing C all worked again, but all my applications and auto starting programs was gone.

I decided to install EasyMiNT, and so I did. Now I just have to install all my old programs that I used to use. Perhaps I should connect my ZIP-drive and search my old zip discs, they're bound to have some usefull stuff on them.
    Doomed

It seems that I'm not supposed to have any fun with my atari anymore. I just thought I should do some coding on my falcon, so I turned it on and waited for the boot. All of a sudden I'm at the desktop, without any harddrives partitions available. A reboot and the same thing happend. I dug out my old floppy boot disc with HDDriver and tried to start it manually. No such luck, even running HDDriver and trying to find the partition table was unsuccessful. What more can I do? Dispair is all there is.

I guess I'll keep to my STe from now on.. Or should I repartition my harddrive and start from scratch, again?

At long last, I upgraded from the old 1.15 to a new 1.16 kernel. At the same time I enabled MP. Everything feels a bit more stable now, but it might just be me imagining things.
    Working Eiffel!
2004-10-21 21:33 av micke under kategorin atari
Last night I sent a mail to Didier and asked how to fix the problem with my eiffel. Why I haven't done that earlier is beyond me, but five minutes after I got his reply it was working again. Now if I could just send a mail to Rodolph about the CT60... I don't think the problem with that is nearly as trivial as the eiffel one. Oh well, running it without cache works perfectly fine, and after using my unaccelerated falc for a while, the CT60 feels fast as hell. :)
    Progress
2004-10-15 00:23 av micke under kategorin atari
So, okey, I had enough of not having a usable falcon (due to a broken keyboard and the stuff I wrote about before), so I took some time to dig out my other working falcon. Now I have a bog standard falcon up and running again, with only 4MB RAM, but hey, it works.
I have some ideas of some part of an intro I plan to do, so if I don't get totally lost again, I will try to finish it as soon as possible. Maybe even this year, and with any luck, even before December 1st, so I can participate in the current DHS online compo. We´ll have to see about that though, no promises.
    Me so stupid

Last night I thought I should update my eiffel to the latest fireware. Ok, fine, I tried. The problem is that my falcon decided to hang itself during the process so the eiffel no longer works. Damn it! Well, I suppose I can send it back to get it fixed... I hope. Have to send a mail and ask nicely.
    Oh well

That went as well as could be expected, didn't it? Not a word here months and I have hadly touched the atari. However, I have plans. The big plan is to go back to school this autumn. What does that have to do with atari you might ask yourself. The thing is that I'm going to study game programming. That means that I probably will try to do some work on a 3D engine for the CT60, and probably some other stuff for the ST as well.

    That's the plan anyway.
    Things are moving again

Yesterday I got the hardware I ordered last week, which was a total surprise, because I hadn't expected them until late this week (it's mondau today). The bad thing about the early arrival of the stuff is that I hadn't had time to prepare anything, like buying a keyboard and downloading drivers.
I bought a keyboard today, but as I've had visitors here since I got home, I haven't downloaded anything yet. And before I can do that I have to setup one of my PCs to have internet access. That is the only was to get driver to a floppy. Perhaps I should by a cheap USB floppy disc drive to my macs.

Oh well, I'll do it tomorrow. :-P
    Up and running!

Last night I booted up my CT60 for the first time in, oh maybe three months. Now I just have to upgrade to the lasest versions of the flash-ROM.
Yesterday I got my confirmation that the Eiffel and EtherNEC is in the mail. They'll probably arrive in about a week. Oh joy! :)
    Hardware ordered!

Toady I sent an order of an Eiffel and an EhterNEC for my Falcon. It will really make my falcon better than ever before. Hopefully this will lead to me unpacking it. :)
    Still not up and running

I feel totally lazy sometimes, like when it comes to unpack all the boxes after to move. The ataris are still not up and running...
    Moving around

I currently in the process of moving out of my appartment and into a new one. So my atari activities will be halted until I get everything in place at my new apartment.
    Random news
2003-08-05 23:15 av micke under kategorin atari
I've been meaning to write here for some time now, but never got to it. It's been over two not-so-productive week since IMP ended. However, I have been doing <em>some</em> coding. Yesterday I fixed my pseudoramdon generator to generate less pseudo and more random numbers.

Today I got inspired to finish the game project I'm working on. Actually the random generator is a key part of the game, so it was quite saticfying to fix it. So now all I have to fix is the game engine, graphics routines, highscore list and of course graphics and music. When the game is playable, I will ask some one to do some graphics for me. It will be great. Or something :)
    Off to IMP
2003-07-17 23:55 av micke under kategorin atari
Early (well, to some maybe) tomorrow I will drive for about 8 hours to attend IMP17, the first summer-IMP I will attend. I'm in the middle of packing my stuff atm, but as I will drive a car with only myself in it, I won't have to pack everything in one bag. :)

I better continue packing now so I can get some sleep before it's time to leave.
    See you at IMP! :)
    Some coding tests
2003-07-13 00:08 av micke under kategorin atari
Last night I started doing some small tests to see what the fuss is all about. I dug out some really old source code and made it use TT-RAM and such. After some modification of an old (lame) demo system I wrote some years ago, I loaded and compiled an old tunnel effect. First I was confused that I didn't run faster, but then I realized that I still was loaded into ST-RAM and used ST-RAM for memory. after changing the program flags I ran it again. Wow. It was insane.
Today I converted the same source to use 320*200 instead of 160*100 as the previous version used, and it was still much faster than running the old version in 030 mode. Insane I tell you! :)

Tonight I've gone through a lot of old code on my hard disk. What a lot of junk I've made and forgotten about. It's quite fun to go through it acctually.
    It has to start somewhere...
2003-07-09 00:56 av micke under kategorin atari
Last night, I did some test code for a game I'm planning to make. Everything looks good so far, but it will not be easy as I don't have any debugger that works with the CT60. Hopefully this will soon change.
If all goes according to plans, the game will be finished. ;-)
    First impressions
2003-06-27 01:57 av micke under kategorin atari
Wow. Lets just say that I was lucky. My CT60 setup seems to work much better than everyone else I've been talking to. The speed is just insane and after getting used to it, there is no turning back. Ok, so there where a few problems to start with. Most of them having to do with me not being used to working with accelerators and FastRAM.
First of all, XBOOT crashed at startup. This was because it was loaded into FastRAM and that the cache was enabled. After changing the file flags and disabling the cache before running it, it works.
MiNT boots like a charm. There where only two things that got me a bit sceptical at first. Thing didn't seem to like being run so fast. That was solved by (once again) disabling the cache. Of course that makes everything go much slower, but it still is helluva lot faster than before.
The second thing, and perhaps the thing I will miss most, is that my network adapter doesn't work with the CT60. I hope it's only a driver issue, so that I won't have to boot into normal (slooow) mode to download anything.

Well, that was my first day with my newly super speeded atari. I will test more tomorrow. :)
    My CT60 has arrived!
2003-06-26 16:54 av micke under kategorin atari
Yesterday, after more than a years worth of waiting, it finally arrived. My CT60. As I didn't have any SDRAM, I didn't try to install it until late last night, when I though I should check if I maybe had some RAM in one of my PCs. I had, so I strated to plug the CT60 in. When I booted it half an hour later, it turned out that the RAM I had was old and didn't work with the CT60.
So, at my lunch break today, I went out to get some newer, bigger and better RAM that should work better with the accelerator.

Having chatted on IRC today, I've heard from several other people that have tried to install their CT60s. Lets just say that I should be really happy if it works well for me right away. Keep your fingers crossed!
